Sunday to Monday / Jesus Is Coming to Dinner

It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.
Mark 13:34 NRSV

Do you have hope? Are you ready for Jesus to turn your world upside down? Watch this to see our friend Rev. Larron Jackson talk about the role of the church.

As we get ready for Christmas, we have the 4-week period called Advent leading us into the idea that God became one of us. Go here to find resources for Advent and step away from the hustle and bustle of the season for bit with devotions and activities for adults, families and children.

For your reflection and discussion this week:

  • Have you ever been surprised by a guest? How do you react to surprises?
  • Do you agree that apocalyptic literature such as Mark 13:24-37 offers hope to the lowly and challenges those on high? What does that speak to you?
  • Israel loved the shepherd, they were the patriarchic leaders. Then Egypt said the shepherd was lowest on the hierarchy of the classes. Who are the shepherds today?
  • With the ministry opportunities coming up at GGCC to experience other cultures how will you engage what God has placed before us? (Dec 4 Ileana's Smile House Concert with Bismark from Nicaragua; Dec 7 Rodney Jackson at Youth Group; Jan 11 & 24 Rick Love in worship and all day workshop on Peacemaking between Christians and Muslims; Jan 18 Panel Discussion on Racism
  • Looking ahead to next week: What do you know about John the Baptist? Read Mark1:1-8
