Sunday to Monday / I Will Go With You

“Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” Judges 4:8

Yesterday we learned about Deborah, a key character from the Old Testament that we really should know. She was one of only three people in the OT that was a judge, prophet and military leader: Moses, Samuel and Deborah. She was a great leader who relied on God to help her lead. In the book of Judges, chapters 4 and 5 you can read about Deborah.

God told Deborah to command Barak, military leader, to lead the people into battle and God would help them win the battle. Barak was afraid and didn't trust God, but he trusted Deborah so he said, "If you will go with me, I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go." Judges 4:8 Deborah and God went with him and was his rear guard and prayer warrior. The battle was successful. God goes with us wherever we go and when we go together, we can do anything with God.

Reflections, discussion starters and thoughts to take into your week.

  • When have you asked someone to guard your back? See Judges 4:8
  • When has someone asked you to have their back? See Judges 4:8
  • Say prayers for leadership, that you might have their back, in church, in schools, police, government, homes…
  • Looking ahead to next week: What does it take to do what is right? See Jeremiah.
