Sunday to Monday | Friendship

“If you think you can fit deep, deep community into the cracks of an overloaded schedule – think again. Wise people do not try to microwave friendship, parenting, or marriage.” ~Dr. Alan McGinnis

“Community is a place where the person you least want to live with always lives.” ~Henri Nouwen

“As frustrating as people can be, it’s hard to find a good substitute.” ~John Ortberg

“If you don’t go to somebody’s funeral they won’t go to yours.” ~Yogi Berra

On Sunday, Pastor Dave spoke about loneliness, friendship and community. He reminded us that we are all weird! Listed below is an excellent excerpt from the book Everybody’s Normal Till You Get to Know Them by John Ortberg, which gives great insight into what a “normal” world may look like, with regard to the themes of friendship and community.

Some questions to think about …

· When have you been on the mat and carried by others (Luke 5:17-26)?

· When have you been the one to carry another person on a mat (Luke 5:17-26)?

· Reflect upon how in all relationships which have longevity, there is a time of being on the mat and time to carry others.

· Offer a prayer of thanksgiving for all your friends.

· Give a prayer of thanksgiving to God that we are loved in spite of not being “normal”.

· Let us be mindful of those who lost friends in the 9-11 tragedy.
