Sunday to Monday / Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is?

“The Christian hope is the hope which has seen everything and endured everything.”

William Barclay

Yesterday was the First Sunday in Advent. Advent - the 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. Advent - a time of urgent waiting. Yes, Pastor Dave taught: a paradox. We urgently wait for Jesus to be born and for Jesus to come again. Advent is a time to prepare for the birth of our Savior, not just with shopping, baking, decorating, partying and all that...but with candles, quiet reflection and prayer.

We hear in Matthew 24:36-44 that we must be prepared for the Son of Man is coming. That doesn't mean some time in the future - but now, we can be ready for Jesus' coming NOW.

  • Is time a blessing or a curse for you? How might time become more of a blessing in your life?
  • Do you like to be prepared? How well are you doing with spiritual vigilance? How might scripture, community, and service play larger roles in your life?
  • In the midst of despair have you ever received a sign from God? Are you watching for the Lord to intercede in your life?
  • Looking forward to next week: Pray in regards to what God might be calling you to do to prepare spiritually? See Matthew 3:1-12 for further reflection.
