On Sunday, Pastor Dave continued with his 5 part sermon series on Practicing Greatness, inspired by Reggie McNeal. The topic of week 5 was "Practicing Time Alone with God." Pastor Dave talked about allowing our schedules to be interrupted, which is the first step towards spiritual formation. He encouraged us to "untether" ourselves- from cell phones, Ipods, computers, etc. to allow us time alone with God. We talked about being "control junkies." He reminded us that when crises happen in our lives, it's then we realize we aren't in control...He challenged us to receive the love notes that God sends us. "The answers to church aren't in a manual."
Here are some questions to guide you through the week...
-What does Jesus' floating pulpit in Luke 5:3 tell us about where God facilitates church?
-Are you ready to be put out into the "deep water" with Jesus (Luke 5:4) ?
-What controls and tethers you? Are you willing to set it aside to follow Jesus (Luke 5:11) ?
-How might you share the teaching of Luke 5:1-11 this week to bless another person(s) ?
