Sticks and Stones

We all know the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” And we all know, it’s not true.

In Matthew 5, Jesus equates words spoken in anger to committing murder. No wonder taking down someone’s reputation is referred to as “back-stabbing.”

Words have power. Jesus calls us to remember their power and use them wisely, humbly and truthfully.

“Words
are powerful
forces of nature.

they are destruction.
they are nourishment.
they are flesh.
they are water.
they are flowers
and bone.

they burn. they cleanse
they erase. they etch.

they can either
leave you
feeling
homeless

or brimming
with home.”

May we be mindful about our words. May we use words to give hope, mercy and love to others.

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 as we gather to worship, to hear a good word from God, and to encourage one another.

Grace be with you,

Vikki
