Spring Cleaning

Ah, spring! I love the freshness and newness that spring brings – the birds in the air, the fresh growth of grass, the moist ground, small stems of flowers, and along with it – the usual spring cleaning. Cleaning out closets, and cupboards, and opening the windows is so refreshing.

Spring cleaning tips:
· Take care of stainless steel and wash the windows
· Organize your closets and donate clothes you haven’t worn in a while
· Remove stains and odors
· Wash the walls, wash the tile, and clean the carpets
· Create a different mood (this is related to adding new pillows or accessories in your home

As I ponder the acts of spring cleaning, I was wondering – how can I align some spiritual equivalents to spring cleaning?

Take care of stainless steel and wash the windows equates to something like “let the Son shine in.” Jesus is a part of our daily life – let him in, and see what He has in store for you!

Psalm 56:13
For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.

Organize your closets and donate clothes you haven’t worn in a while equates to releasing bitterness or unforgiveness – let it go!

Hebrews 12:1
Therefore ... let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress…

Ephesians 4:31-32
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Remove stains and odors equates to renewing and refreshing your mind.

Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Wash the walls, wash the tile, and clean the carpets equates to cleansing your heart.

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Create a different mood (related to adding new pillows or accessories in your home) equates to learning to laugh at yourself and life – feel refreshed!

Psalm 126:2
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

Refresh and Gladden My Spirit

O God! Refresh and gladden my spirit. Purify my heart. Illumine my powers.
I lay all my affairs in Thy hand. Thou art my Guide and my Refuge. I will no longer be sorrowful and grieved; I will be a happy and joyful being.
O God! I will no longer be full of anxiety, nor will I let trouble harass me. I will not dwell on the unpleasant things of life.
O God! Thou art more friend to me than I am to myself. I dedicate myself to Thee, O Lord.
