Spiritual Health

I dropped my teenage son at a basketball skills camp last night and I headed out to the gym. The basketball camp is focused on speed and agility, shooting skills, and basketball moves. Today’s culture emphasizes many aspects of our health. For example, the other night on a local news station, current reports were focused on financial well-being, as well as a healthy lifestyle involving eating healthy and exercising more. From many sources, and various influences, we are told we should effectively manage our financial and physical health, but advice is limited on spiritual health.

Spiritual health is often related to feeling a sense of purpose, or hope, or even peace.
Thompson Rivers University claims that there are several behaviors, such as feeling connected with others, feeling a part of community, or volunteering, which can benefit your spiritual health.

They list the following ways to improve your spiritual health:
· Pray, meditate or worship.
· Live joyfully.
· Practice forgiveness.
· Be quiet. Take time for yourself every day, even if it's just before you go to sleep, or when you're driving home.
· Be open. Spiritual experiences can happen anywhere at any time.
· Practice being non-judgmental and having an open mind.
· Be receptive to pain or times of sorrow. It is often in these times when we discover how spirituality can help us cope.
· Allow yourself to believe in things that aren't easily explainable.

Each day, remember to focus not only on financial and physical health, but also on spiritual health.

1 Corinthians 12:12
The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
