Spiritual Compass

Yesterday morning a family that lives down the street had a breakfast and invited the neighborhood. I reconnected with people and met new ones. One family with two beautiful young daughters had just moved in the day before and had spent their very first night in their new home.

Where did the time go? We’ve lived in the same neighborhood for three decades. I was once that young mother with a small child. And last Saturday my young child married the love of his life and together they began their life together, committed to God and each other.

This span of time in which there were seemingly a vast number of days all of a sudden was gone in a blink of an eye. Which brings me to another stage of life, always moving forward but finding it hard not to look back. And wonder. Wonder if I said the right things, modeled the right things to prepare my child for his new stage of life. Marriage is not easy. Neither is life.

Faith is the compass that guides us. It always points in the right direction. Even though there are things I could have done differently or better, I trust that this navigation system – this spiritual compass - I’ve shared with my son will always help him find true north.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6
