Spirit Time

Dear People of the Spirit,

There is a commercial on TV right now that says ”… set goals that you cannot achieve, and then achieve them.” The words strike me as sort of an oxymoron. If you cannot achieve it , how are you supposed to achieve it? Pentecost, the time of the Holy Spirit, might just be that time theologically that we remember there is an “advocate” as John says, who is ready to assist us in attaining that which we cannot attain by ourselves.

The writer Phyllis Tickle says that the early centuries of Christianity were the time of the Father, The Reformation was the time of the Son, and these days might well be the time of the Spirit. According to Acts 2 it is the nature of the Holy Spirit to descend freely, to blow where it will, to empower people beyond our humanly imposed boundaries. Could it be possible that the huge growth of Pentecostalism, particularly in the Southern hemisphere , could be seen as the time of the Spirit?

So I invite you to engage the time of Pentecost, which we celebrate this weekend. Most of us are more comfortable with talks of the Father or the Son, but I invite you deep into Pentecost truth nonetheless. May you find that hidden deep within your spiritual capacity is the ability to achieve impossible goals which you can achieve through the power of the Holy Spirit!

Acts 2 blessings,

Pastor David J. Jensen
