Spirit of change

Spring is upon us. I’ve got crocus blooming. Last night I sat on my deck before the sun set and basked in the warmth. Spring is the time of rebirth and growth. It seems like a far better time to make resolutions; more so than the dark days of winter on Jan 1st! Would our resolutions be different in spring? Perhaps. But resolve to exercise more and eat better are easier when you can get out in the light and go for a walk and pick up strawberries and artichokes in the store.

The breeze blows in spring and brings change – real change often in the form of snow. The wind blows refreshingly and we can see something happening: birds are coming back; caterpillars running along the sidewalk; a few green plants popping up; and blue skies.

God’s Spirit is like that – blowing in change to our lives. If we’re open to it. Sometimes it requires that we allow ourselves to be blown in directions we might not want to go. But when we let God’s Spirit fill us and guide us, we can let Jesus’ mercy change us. Change us into new people who can join Jesus in changing the world. What a refreshing change that is!

When we realize
that we do not have to be
clever, powerful or successful
in order to be loved,
then we can live in the truth,
come to the light
and be led by the Spirit of God.

~ Jean Vanier

We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 as we gather to celebrate this Spirit of God that is moving around, within and among us. Thanks be to God!

Grace and peace,
