Special Gifts

Happy New Year! It's the start of December and tomorrow is the first day of the new church year. The church year begins with the season of Advent. Advent is the four Sundays before Christmas. It's a time of waiting and preparing; preparing for the Christ child to come on Christmas, to come to us today and to come in his glory.

There are many ways to practice Advent. Join us in worship tomorrow at 9 or 10:30 am as we begin to create a community Advent wreath. Check out this blog on Monday for curated links for resources to bless your Advent. Come Thursday evening to our MUD supper 6 - 7:30 pm for an Advent celebration and get some tools to make this the best Advent ever.

One advantage of celebrating Advent is that when Christmas comes, it's not just another day or a day you're glad to be done with. It's a day to rejoice and be glad in the gift that God has given us.

Speaking of gifts, you are probably shopping. Culturally, we've made it into a big deal. The giving of gifts at Christmas probably started as a way to honor Jesus as the wise men did. But it's sure turned into something that can feel excessive and not have anything to do with Jesus, right?

One way to make a gift to a loved one and honor and respect Jesus would be to make a gift to the Ready to Bless Fund. We've put together a "catalog" or a list of ways for you to do that and a card you can give to the recipient.

Check it out here

Pastor DJ, Claudia and I have also made a list of books we've read this year or are on our nightstand, that you might be want to check out for ideas for the book lovers on your list. Find it here.

We'll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 and 10:30 am as we gather to worship, praise and thank our God; and to celebrate the new year and the season of Advent together. It's not the same without you.

Grace be with you,

Vikki
