Sometimes, it seems so hard……

There are times in our lives that things just seem so hard.

2012 was a hard year for me and my family.

2013 started out with a lot of promise, we were so glad to “ put 2012 behind us.”

2013 still continues to offer the New Year’s promise even though we have had a few bumps this year already. I think most families have.

We get reminder notes from the staff at GGCC when it is our turn to write the devotion for church. With the way things have been lately, I am grateful for the reminder. I confess, I have forgotten in the past.

This month I had a couple of ideas for my devotion, because I have been kind of in a funk, feeling like things are too hard right now.

What I have let slipped by, or I have forgotten is God is with us in the good times and the bad times. God is with us in the in-between times too.

My mother-in-law Martha sent my son Nicholas a little book of prayers the year he was born. Martha was a wonderful person, and I was blessed to have her in my life, however the time was too short. Nicholas is a blessing in my life that I cherish everyday.

The prayer book Martha sent to Nich, is a reminder of all that I have. When I opened up this little book, the first prayer says:

The Lord is all I need He takes care of me – Psalms 16:5

It’s kind of hard to follow that. I want to say Amen and close the little book. I didn’t.

A few pages back it says:

For this new morning with its light, for rest and shelter of the night, for health and food for love and friends, for every gift Your goodness sends, we thank You, gracious Lord.    Amen
