Something New

Have you tried anything new lately? Probably the only “new” thing I try is a new recipe. New is different. New can be hard. New is unknown. Different, hard and unknown aren’t necessarily things I seek with enthusiasm.

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 2 Corinthians 5:17

If I’m in Christ and he is in me, I am new.

But if I stay stuck in only doing things I’m comfortable with, are easy or known, am I really practicing being new? So I decided to get out of my comfort zone and finally signed up for a pottery class (after “threatening” to do it for several years!)

It’s hard. I’m really not good at it. Most of the people in the class are picking it up much faster than I am. I don’t know what I’m doing. Much of the time I don’t seem to understand what the instructor is telling me to do. Sitting at a pottery wheel is uncomfortable and trying to use my foot to make the wheel move at just the right speed while using my hands to form the clay while taking directions for right-handed people and converting them into left-handed application seems to be more than my brain can handle.

It’s great. I’m leaning into the difficulty, frustration and challenges knowing - even feeling, that’s it’s good for me to be on this new path. Trusting the teacher when she says this is hard, don’t give up, you can do this. I’m usually a “quick learner” and that is certainly not the case here. Isn’t that great!

If I can get over myself and allow time and practice and effort and difficulty to form me into doing something new, perhaps Jesus can work in me after all.

God, make us into something new!

より:Zune and iPod: Most people rcapmoe the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
