Simple Wisdom

In the hustle and bustle of the season it is important to remember that the reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ. In the Peanuts movie “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Linus reminds us all what Christmas is all about:

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest and peace, good will toward men.

That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”

Another lesson in the meaning of Christmas comes from the Grinch Who Stole Christmas:

He hadn't stopped Christmas from coming! It came! Somehow or other, it came just the same! … “How could it be so? It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes, or bags!” He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! “Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas ...perhaps ... means a little bit more!”

Welcome Christmas. Bring your cheer, cheer to all Whos, far and near. Christmas Day is in our grasp, so long as we have hands to clasp. Christmas Day will always be, just as long as we have we. Welcome Christmas while we stand, heart to heart and hand to hand.

Indeed, Christmas Day “will always be” as long as we remember that “we have we.”  A very Merry Christmas to all!
