Shoes Don't Lie

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Do you notice who is around you? Who is with you on the journey each day? Is it possible you don’t notice all those around you?

Do you notice the shoes of others? Back in 1983, an inner city pastor told me, "shoes do not lie. Shoes will tell you the truth about who somebody is.” Do you observe shoes?

From the 1994 film “Forrest Gump”:
Forrest Gump: “Those must be comfortable shoes. I bet you could walk all day in shoes like those and not feel a thing.”
Nurse at a park bench: “My feet hurt.”
Forrest Gump: “My momma always said you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, where they go, where they’ve been. I’ve worn lots of shoes. I bet if I think about it real hard, I can remember my first shoes.”

What can others tell from your shoes? Have you been with Jesus? Do your shoes bare testimony to following the risen Jesus? Where have your shoes been and what stories do they tell?

See Luke 24: 13-32 for further reflection.

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
