Shining From the Inside Out

One way I have found to stop to take a few minutes for God during the day is through my saved “task appointments” in Outlook. I created recurring appointments to remind me every day to read a favorite prayer, which I saved for each day of the week.

This is my prayer I have saved for Mondays, which popped up a few Mondays ago at 8:30 am:

I bless you for the day you have made, Mighty Lord Jesus and pray that I may spend this day rejoicing in your creation. I pray for your Holy Spirit to fill me with the joy of my salvation, so that your light may shine through me into the world, that your honor and glory may be known to all people. Amen.

After reading I realized this is what Vikki was talking about a few weeks ago in her sermon – how Jesus was transfigured on the mountaintop with Peter, James, and John – how His insides were showing -- how transfiguration is on a higher lever and different than transforming. The visual Vikki described helped me realize how important my light can be. The light that shines through us is from Jesus – and it is so special it’s a gift – and it’s so special we can’t fully understand it, (it’s transcendent). I would never think my light that sprinkles out of me could be as brilliant as Jesus’; however, by golly, it’s from Him! It’s His light! Amen to That!

Then, this got me thinking: Do I shine Jesus’ light “to be known to all people”? Do I choose who to shine to? Do I choose when to shine? Am I too busy to shine? Am I not confident enough to think I can be a shiner? Can everyone see my light?

Mighty Lord Jesus, help us to change from the inside out. Help us to shine Your light “to be known to all people”! Amen.
