There are many struggles and hardships in life and some of them seem to cause us to think that life is over and shattered into pieces. As a child, we didn’t get that toy we wanted or best friend moved away and then, we cried and thought to ourselves that life is over. We saw our parents get divorced which caused much pain and then life is over. We liked this person in high school and asked for a date or prom but that person ridiculed us and refused and that was much more pain than we could stand. Life is over and shattered. We didn’t get into the college we wanted. We didn’t get that job or promotion. Will we ever get married? We had to get a divorce. We lost the child to illness or car accident. There are many obstacles in life to cause us to think that life is over. Life is over.

Life is shattered like a glass vase that is dropped to the floor from a great height. Pieces scattered all over the floor and it doesn’t seem like we can pick up the pieces. Certain people believe this and they turn to drugs, alcohol, and guns to escape reality. You seen all the news stories and it is quite sad. They have no one to turn to. Life is lost and truly over. But I think we are forgetting something. There is a great and awesome God out there that is determined to change your thinking that life is over to life is wonderful.

I think God sees things differently. He sees the shattered pieces on the floor and somehow makes the pieces come together and form something else like a glass horse or glass house. It seems God wants to transform a person’s character to think that life is not over. It is just getting started. Life is beautiful and that’s how we should treat it. We might not get that dog we wanted as a kid but we got a turtle which gave us so much joy and amusement. Learn to appreciate the things we have. Didn’t get that girlfriend or boyfriend in high school but found a wonderful person in college and eventually got married to the person. Went though many obstacles with the person and very glad that person was there by our side. Christ never promised a rose garden but life became amazing with the things learned and experienced together. The trials are so much more worth it than just having things given to you on a silver platter.

Romans 12:2, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

God picks up those shattered glass pieces and mold them into something magical. Your character is magical and with God, it becomes an ever-changing wonderful beauty.

In Christ,

Stan Yee
