Seeking God

Jeremiah 29:13 - You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

It has almost been a year since my last trip to Jerusalem and the holy land. I plan to go again if I have the opportunity. Many of the people that I’ve met traveling to or during my travels in Israel were there to visit history and renew or enhance their faith. Visiting the birthplace of Jesus in Bethlehem, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, seeing the site of Golgotha and the Tomb of Christ were amazing spiritual moments that I will always cherish.

Thomas Aquinas said “There is within every soul a thirst for happiness and meaning.

I think it’s evident that mankind has pursued fulfillment of that thirst with everything indulgence imaginable and that those pursuits ultimately don’t  satisfy the soul. Seeking and finding God does.

In Jerusalem I saw Christian Pilgrims from all over the world.  All I think were seeking to deepen their faith.   Some I talked to had to see the birthplace or touch the place of crucifixion to really finally believe.

Jeremiah in the verse above says that seeking God and finding Him is not about seeing him with our eyes but with our hearts.

Remember what Jesus said to Thomas."Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Finding The Lord is about seeking Him with eagerness, integrity and sincerity – all qualities of the heart.  When persons seek the Lord this way they always find Him and He is always ready to listen to us, comfort us and forgive us.

A trip to the Holy Land is amazing, incredible, fantastic and it will provide wonderful memories, but we don’t have to go there to find God, we only have to seek Him with all our hearts.

God Bless,

Matt Schneider
