Say Yes

Dear Mary’s,

The angel said to her,"And now you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus..” (Luke 2:31)
Mary, "How can this be since I am a virgin?” (Luke 2:34)
The angel said, "For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 2:37)
Then Mary said, “Here I am, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” (Luke 2:38)

The story of Jesus begins with the story of the first disciple, Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary is justly called the "first disciple” because she was the first to be called to work with God, to be used by God, in the journey Jesus would take for the salvation of the world. And Mary said, “Yes.” In her assent to God’s work in her and through her, Mary is a model for all of us later day disciples.

May Mary inspire each of us- male and female, to say “yes” to being pregnant with new possibility to serve our Lord. As Christmas approaches, what do you want to start saying "Yes” to? For a new yes to occur there must also be some “stops” and some faithful “no’s." A great activity in this advent season as we prepare for the coming Christ Child would be to prayerfully consider what God is calling you to say “yes” and “no” to. If Jesus can bring a fresh stop and start to your spiritual life, you will be blessed in 2015 and beyond.
