Sanctuary & Saints

One of the best parts of our move a year ago is our close proximity to the Highline Canal Trail. (For those of you not familiar with it, the Highline is a 71 mile trail that meanders thru the metro area from Roxborough Park to Aurora.) It is a 5 minute walk to the trail entrance from our front door. Thinking about Terry Hershey's sanctuary talk, I certainly put this trail at the top of my list of sanctuary places. I do feel close to God here, and I often have my best conversations with Him while walking along.

The big decision I face is whether to turn to the left or to the right. The right often wins out because for some reason my dog thinks that's the way to go! The best thing about the "right" choice is we pass by Mallory's bench, then down a ways we pass by Meghan's bench. Mallory Anne Sauer was a dancer, fashion blogger, 4th generation Coloradan who died in May 2017, just before her 28th birthday of metastatic melanoma. Meghan Anne Ratzer died in 1986 when she was 21/2 years old. I don't know anything about Meghan's life or death, other than what I imagine and hope it was like...full of snuggles and giggles, balloons and favorite toys. I rarely pass these two spots without saying something to these two, usually silently, but sometimes out loud. It might be a comment about the weather or it might just be a "hello." These were two young lives ended too soon. No doubt they left behind friends and family grieving, but with hearts forever filled with cherished memories.

In a couple of weeks we honor those who have passed on, those whose lives enriched our faith formation. All Saints Sunday is November 4th. I think I will add Mallory and Meghan to my list of saints. Even in their absence and despite the fact that I never met either of them, they have enriched my faith journey.

Where are your sanctuary places? Who are your saints?

Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your post seem to be running off the screen in Internet
explorer. I'm not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with browser compatibility but
I thought I'd post to let you know. The design and style look great though!
Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks
