Sadness to Gladness

I am full of sadness in light of events of the past week…why do these things happen in the weeks just before Christmas, let alone any time? The shootings at Arapahoe High School, families' lives shattered.  A terrible happening, that will mark my 53rd birthday forever. The murder of a young father and husband in a car jacking at a parking garage in New Jersey. The report said it was outside of an "upscale mall." A terrible act of random violence.  The death of a good Samaritan on the way home from his wedding reception. He stopped to assist a woman whose car had slid off the road and was hit and killed (along with the stranded woman) by another vehicle while his bride sat in their car and watched. A terrible accident. Several people I know say they don't watch or listen to news because there are only bad things reported on and tragedies in the world. I am not one of them. I want to know what's happening in the world, good and bad.

Sometimes it's hard to think of one's blessings while so many others are in the midst of tragedy. I sincerely hope that many of you attended service this past Sunday. It was a very memorable morning filled with powerful words and hope-filled stories. Tears flowed on Sunday morning. Among other topics, Brad Corrigan from Love, Light and Melody spoke about generosity and Jan reminded us of the risk involved in true, open-hearted generosity. Many things to think about…Some of my sadness turned to gladness as I once again was reminded how blessed I am to be a participant in a little church that meets in the music room of a suburban high school.

Below is New Song, by Brad Corrigan…it is on his new CD being released today. Makes me think that many of us could use a "new song."
