Sacrifice

As Easter draws near, I begin to think more and more about Sacrifice. When I’m trying to sort something out in my mind, I turn to those much wiser than me for answers. The internet is full of information, a few key strokes and then a click on my mouse and I have not only the definition of Sacrifice, I have some amazing quotes about it too!

Arabian Proverb: Quotes on Sacrifice
If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.

Oh how easy the economy of the heart is for me! The tough part is the wealth.

Martin Luther King, Jr.: Quotes on Sacrifice
Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?

I’m teaching Bible Study, taking care of my family, praying for others, am I doing enough?

Helen Keller: Quotes on Sacrifice
Many persons have the wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

We have given our loyalty and resources to many worthy purposes throughout our lives. I think Helen’s talking something deeper, something that you are willing to give your all to.

Definition: Sacrifice-as verb with object: to surrender or give up, or permit injury or disadvantage to, for the sake of something else.

Jesus died for me. I’m not worth it but he did it anyway! How can anyone top that? Nope, no one can!

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual[a] act of worship.

My life is the sacrifice I offer back to God to say thank-you! It is easy to get bogged down in what I can’t give. The bank account is a little empty, my time account is already stretched…Those are immobilizing words. All God asked me to do was give him my life. When I say yes to God then everything I do is a spiritual act of worship and sacrifice that God will bless. I’m realizing now that it is not the $$ amounts or the hours that matter as much as my willingness to give up something I want for something God wants.

Matthew 26:39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Prayer:

Abba Father, Your son said yes! He gave his life for me. Help me to remember, not my will, but thine be done! Amen
