Rolling Along - Part Two

On March 8, 2012 I posted an online devotion about  a guy carrying a cross with a wheel at the end ... just rolling along through the parking lot near McDonalds off of Yosemite and Lincoln.  It made me stop and pause and I wish I had stopped to ask about his story.  Well, lucky me....someone passed along the story!  I'd like to share it with you this Good Friday.

My original devotion on March 8.....

A couple of days ago I’m driving home from a meeting and pulled into the shopping center where Safeway is on the corner of Yosemite and Lincoln. Just your everyday pull into the parking lot, jump out, run into the store for a couple of items, back in your car and out through the parking lot on the way home. Until I see something totally out of place that makes me stop. It was one of those unintentional pauses like one of the table questions we had at last night’s Lenten midweek service… “When have you had unintentional pauses – that God provided you with an opportunity to pause when you least expected it?” This was one of those pauses.

I see a guy wearing a sweatshirt and baseball cap carrying what looked to be about a 10 foot long cross on his back. You know, like Jesus carrying his cross. But he’s not struggling because at the bottom end of the cross is a little wheel that rolls along. So he’s hunched over with the cross on his back walking easily with it near McDonald’s and up onto the grass at the end of the parking lot where he lays it down and rests. I have no idea what the story was with him and the cross (and I wish I would have stopped to ask). How long had he been carrying this? Where was he going with it? I thought he might be getting it to a church somewhere in preparation for Holy Week. There was no church around that area that I'm aware of.

I was having a day where I felt weighed down with some matters I’m dealing with and then all of a sudden I’m given this wonderful visual gift from God reminding me that Jesus loves me, takes my burden and makes my load light.

He’s there for you too.

Blessings on the journey,
Nancy Nickoley

Here's Part Two....about 71 year old Lone Tree resident Arthur Bissett who is known around the world for carrying the cross into 319 countries and inhabited islands, a distance of nearly 40,000 miles.  Click here to read this fascinating story.
