Rising to Our Challenges

Challenges; everyone has them. Some are inspired by challenge and others totally shut down at the mere thought of a challenge. What is common in every situation is that God is with us to guide us through our challenges.

Personal attacks can be a huge challenge to face, especially if you feel you are facing it alone. Ugly comments can be very hurtful. Many times it is hard to turn the other cheek. Often times, the best response is simply no response, especially if the person delivering the intended insult is full of emotion when the attack is given. As Jesus was being led to the cross, he said “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.” (Luke 23:24) Imagine being able to forgive your enemies in such a situation. It is true that only love can conquer hatred, and Jesus exhibits this at its best. May you offer a word of peace whenever you feel an attack has been directed your way.

And for those that absolutely dread the thought of facing a challenge, remember that God will lead us through our challenges, if we ask for his guidance.  Dueteronomy 31:6 states, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The NIV Women’s Devotional Bible I use has this to offer on God’s blessings. “Scripture never promises believers a trial-free life. But God’s Word does promise a life of purpose, direction and blessing under his watchful care. It does promise that the one who trusts God is secure.”

And then there are the challenges of focus, when we absolutely have to get something accomplished and are in no mood to get through what needs to be done. Spring fever always seem to make the inside jobs that much harder. In the spring I love to be outside, enjoying the beauty of all around us, and the refreshing outdoor atmosphere (and in Colorado, spring is sometimes a little too refreshing).  We must discipline ourselves to commit to the task at hand. Try a designated time to work at your task or assignment and allow for some time to break away as well.

Dear God, we ask for your guidance as we face our daily challenges. We pray that you will not only lead us through our challenge, but that we might also have the courage to go yet an extra mile in rising above our challenges.  We ask for your blessings upon us as we reach out to others to help them through their challenges as well. Love does conquer hatred and we are blessed to know your love abounds.  Help us to stay focused with the tasks we are assigned so that we have time to enjoy the beauty around us. We pray for strength to challenge our limits and not limit our challenges. Amen.
