Relationships Matter

What do kids need?

Children’s Hospital Colorado says that kids need 8 things from their parents:

  • Security
  • Stability
  • Consistency
  • Emotional Support
  • Love
  • Education
  • Positive Role Models
  • Structure

Do we need to help parents give their kids what they need? I think we do. We are learning how “Mentors Shine” in the Bible this month and next. Last week we learned how Jethro mentored Moses to not be a lone ranger, but rather rely on others to help lead. This week we hear about how Moses mentored Joshua to be a leader.

We are created in the image of God. God is relationship: Father, Son & Holy Spirit.

God created us to be in relationship: in our families and in the family of God.

It’s our joy to help one another.

Relationships matter. We can help young people thrive, we can surround parents with support and we can make a difference in our communities. Specifically, at GGCC we have the Mentoring Ministry that pairs every child from birth to 18 years with an adult mentor. We gather monthly for suppers, lunches and activities that we might be intentional about relationships: developmental relationships with kids and supporting relationships among parents. We’ll be looking for you tomorrow at 9:00 or 10:30 am as we gather to hear the Good News of how Jesus’ mercy is changing, me and the world. It’s our annual Back to School Blessing where we pray for students of all ages, teachers, administrators, staff, coaches and parents as the new school year begins.

Grace be with you,

Vikki
