Reach Out Today

My devotional scripture this morning reads.....Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another.  Romans 12:10

Gracious Father, You have given me the privilege of caring for others.  Each is a never-to-be repeated miracle.  You have called me to be a ministry of intercession and to release Your blessings when I pray for others.

Lord, I entrust to Your care my loved ones and friends -- especially those who are confronting difficulties or illness. Help me to be sensitive to the needs of people I meet today.  Enable me to be others what You have been to me.  Help me to live this day as if it were the only day I had left.

If there is any kindness I can show, any affirmation I can give, any care I can impart, Lord, help me to exptress it today.  May I be an encouragement and not a burden; a source of courage and not of cynicism.  This is the day You have made, and I plan to rejoice and be glad in it.  In the name of Him who gave us the Commandment, "Love one another as I have loved you."   Amen

(from "One Quiet Moment" a daily prayer devotional by Lloyd John Ogilvie)

I am reminded of Pastor Dave and his family's trip to Nicaragua and the stories they shared on Sunday of the privilege they had caring for others living in the trash dump.  Whether it be across the world or across the street or across our kitchen table we can all make a difference by opening up our hearts, our hands and our minds and trust that God will work through us as we love one another as he has loved us.

Reach out today and make a difference.
