Reach up! Reach out! Reach behind you! Reach beneath you!

Recently, I was listening to a song by the band Imagine Dragons, called The River. As I listened, I reflected on the meaning and the importance of reaching.

The definition of reach: To stretch out an arm in a specified direction in order to touch or grasp something.

Reaching up: reach up to the Father

“For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” – Psalm 57:10

Reaching out: help others around you

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” – Philippians 2:3

Reaching behind: help those who are struggling to keep up

“I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” – Isaiah 49:6b

Reaching beneath: help those who have fallen down

“But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” – Luke 14:1-14

Reaching out, beyond where you sit, or where you are at metaphorically speaking, is important and critical to serving the greater purpose as to why you are here. Find out what you can touch and who you can help by reaching out.

Keep in mind that God is always reaching out to you.

“He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters.” – Psalm 18:16
