Present Moment

"You must live in the present. Launch yourself on every wave. Find your eternity in each moment." - Henry David Thoreau

What a gift it is- this moment. And how easy it is to let it slip away. We don't know what tomorrow brings and we can't change yesterday, but we can live this moment and use it to glorify our God. What are we to do with the time that God has granted us? It's different for everyone, and there's a lot of beauty in that.

I work at an outreach center downtown called Confluence Ministries. I find myself busy with work at my desk and sometimes I can zone out focusing on my tasks instead of seeing what happens around here. But, then God nudges me to pay attention to the present moment, and to pay attention to the people around me at my workplace. Like when I spoke with a mother who lost her job and doesn't know how she will give her children anything for Christmas. Or when I met and visited with an elderly widow who just needed someone to really listen to her. Or when I spoke with a man whose wife is terminally ill and he has no clue how to prepare to live in the world without her. Or when I talked with a man who wants to improve his GED so he can get a better job. They are people and moments that lead me to living in the present, and appreciate the now. And they are my present moment. Dropping what I am doing and giving them my full attention is what I am called to do. How selfish I am to continually care more about my own needs than being present with those who need presence.

"You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence." Psalm 16:11
 Our God is ever present.

Who do you need to be present with today?

What present moment is God calling you to?

Grace & Peace,
Amanda Jensen
