Preparation Too Early?

In the stores, I have been seeing lots of Halloween decorations. I always ask friends and family, “Did the celebration always start this early in October?” I really don’t remember it being so soon. In some ways that’s a good thing, yet in others, is it too soon? Starting early allows for us to prepare… to prepare our houses, get all our decorations out, take in the sights the smells, and think about each day leading up to the holiday. It allows me more time to think about the design for the pumpkin to be carved. It allows me more time to find those “lost” decorations that I put away last year and can’t remember where. I always enjoy seeing the young children’s joy about their costumes; they are brimming with excitement about the possibilities. In fact, that attitude, alone, is a good reason to enjoy early preparation for a holiday: overflowing with excitement about the possibilities.

Luke 12:35-37 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes.

So, I will face each day, each month, and each season as a child (or servant waiting for their master) with an overflowing joy about what’s may come, even when the preparation seems too early.
