How does one go about sharing the message of the Gospel? The Good News that each of us is created in the image of God, loved and forgiven, called to follow Jesus with mercy and enabled by the Holy Spirit to join in the transformation of the world.

You can’t talk, force or shame the Good News into someone.

But Jesus invites us to be in relationship with people of peace. In Luke 10, Jesus sent out 70 disciples, in pairs, to share his message. He instructed them to only spend their time with people of peace.

People of peace (also known as PoP) are people who are ready, willing and need to hear the message of forgiveness and love. Jesus didn’t run after anyone to make them hear his message. He spent his time with people who were prepared to hear about the Kingdom of God. It’s not our job to make someone a PoP, it’s the job of the Holy Spirit.

That gives us a break! We don’t have to force open doors. God does most of the work on preparing people to hear the Good News.

We just hang out with our neighbors, coworkers, community, strangers and even enemies. We practice grace, mercy and live as PoPs. Our kindness might be a word that helps open someone’s heart to God. We just keep our eyes open and stay ready to share a smile, a touch, a random act of kindness and sometimes, perhaps a message of hope. It’s our lifestyle of following Jesus.

May God send PoPs in your path today so that you might share Jesus’ mercy in a world that seems to really need it.

Grace be with you,
