Pondering Christmas

Pondering is a word worth pondering. According to the dictionary it means 'to weigh in the mind, to think about, and reflect on.'

Some of the best Christmas moments are the quiet ones, and the best reflection of Christmas takes place in the mirror of our own hearts. Do you search for the 'quiet times' this holiday season? OR is it the hustle and bustle of shopping, wrapping, and baking? Maybe it is decorating the Christmas tree, as well as the perfect blinking light display for the outside of the house. This was always a favorite tradition that my dad & I treasured. The most precious display was the year he made 4ft. tall choir boys/girls out of wood and delicately hand painted each one with their own song books and open mouths. He placed a speaker system in the yard so that when anyone passed by the house, they could hear the beautiful Christmas carols from his choir. This choir accompanied our family to our first home as well!

Christmas Eve was most special! The children from our church presented the Christmas story at a service in English as well as an afternoon service in German. I lived in Altenburg (as German as it gets!) We learned the passages and songs in both languages. 'Stille Nacht' will always be in my heart. One year I was chosen to be Mary...a lot of pressure to get it RIGHT!! But actually, EVERYONE wanted to be the donkey!

As we left the church we were blessed with our bag of goodies...apples, oranges, nuts and the peppermint swirl candy canes! Now, a VERY important event was that while we were all at church, Santa visited our house!! So we hurried home to open our gifts and then open our doors to the neighbors to share the eggnog, Christmas cookies, and savory soup of the season!

Pondering the special memories of Christmas does give moments of quiet to treasure!
What are your special memories? Are you creating special memories for your family?

"But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart." Luke 2:19.

How wonderful to reflect on the timeless story of Jesus, keeping in mind and pondering these things in your heart!

Merry Christmas to all!!
