I don’t know about you, but I know a lot of people who plan. I might even go so far as to say that I’ve even had a plan or two. Whether it’s a daily plan or a life plan, I would guess we have all thought something should go a certain way, you know, “according to plan”.

In the stories of the New Testament, we learn that Mary and Joseph have a plan to marry. Their plan has a little bit of a twist as we learn that Mary is to give birth to a son. This twist wasn’t something that either Mary or Joseph planned for. In fact, Joseph was getting ready to quietly leave Mary but before he could do this, an Angel appeared to Joseph in a dream to explain. Mary was to give birth to a son conceived by the Holy Spirit and Joseph was to name him Jesus.

WOW!!! What a change in plans!!! Joseph had two choices, he could stick to his earthly plan to quietly end things with Mary OR he could choose to follow the direction and guidance of a very important angel. Thankfully Joseph chose the latter. His Faith led to something even greater than what he could have imagined.

Plans are a good thing as we hope and dream and look to our futures – I would encourage you to embrace these plans … AND … any changes that come along the way as God guides those hopes and dreams into even bigger stories imaginable.

As I was doing some Christmas shopping, I ran across a verse from Psalm 138:8 (NLT) “The Lord will work out His plans for my life.” What a beautiful reminder that when I get caught up in my “earthly” plan, God will show up and show off with His Angels to help my plan turn out even better!!! What a beautiful Blessing and a Gift!!!

As you continue on in your celebrations for this Glorious Season, I would encourage you not to get caught up in the earthly plan of “perfect” and “just so”, rather, remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Season and that His plan is what he has in store for YOU.

Merry Christmas!!!
