Dear Dreamers,

In the book of Genesis we learn about Joseph, the dreamer and pilgrim. Though he did not know it at the time, he was not only on a sojourn, in exile in Egypt ... he was also on a pilgrimage, a journey to God. People who are grasped by a dream of something greater than themselves and their puny projects, invariably become pilgrims, those sent by the dream of God on a journey toward a new world.

The gospels present the disciples of Jesus as people on a journey. Chaucer, in his “Canterbury Tales,” depicted a group of pilgrims on their way to Canterbury:

“As soon as April pierces to the root                                                                                                        The drought of March , and bathes each bud and shoot                                                                  Through every vein of sap with gentle showers                                                                                  Whose engendering liquor spring the flowers;                                                                                     When zephyrs have breathed softly all about                                                                                   Inspiring every wood and field and sprout,                                                                                              And in the zodiac the youthful sun                                                                                                            His journey halfway through the Ram has run;                                                                                     When little birds are bus with their song                                                                                                 Who sleep with open eyes the whole night long                                                                                      Life stirs their hearts and tingles in them so,                                                                                          Then off as pilgrims people long to go.”                                                                                             ~Geoffrey Chaucer, 14th century, England

See Genesis Chapters 40 and 42 for further reflection.

Prayers: For all who mourn the death of Don Medsker. That the dream born July 4th, 1776 in the United States be one all God's pilgrims might embrace.

Still in one peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
