Physical & Spiritual

Let’s face it, life is busy. We try to fit in everything, only to realize that isn’t possible. There are certain requirements that are unavoidable on a daily basis, those being sleeping, eating, and in many cases attending school or work.

Sometimes we get so busy and caught up In life’s activities, we forget to really listen to those we love most, give our pets less attention than they need, forget to follow up with a friend, and many times we may even forget God. What??? How could anyone forget God? Well, ask yourself, what did you do to honor and be with God today? Did you maybe also forget to include your kids in your time with God? It is equally important to not only take care of our physical health; we must also take care of our spiritual health on a daily basis.

Kids develop the habits we teach them and we create habits from repeatedly doing things on a consistent basis. By taking time to read scripture or devotions and by saying a prayer together at meals and bedtime and starting each day by expressing our thankfulness for all the bountiful blessings we are granted, we are beginning to teach our children to love and honor God and to always keep him active in our and their lives. On the other hand, if we are always too busy, we are also teaching a lesson.

Therefore, it is important to take care of our physical and spiritual health and to teach our children to do the same. It is okay to decline some activity requests received and it is also important to intentionally say yes to some of the requests we receive that will allow our spiritual wellbeing to grow. Just like it is important to intentionally spend time serving others as a family activity, with your kids, so they can learn what paying it forward means.

Jesus took time to help and teach others and there are also several references In the Bible where he took time to pray. While none of us would claim to be better than Jesus, we all can admit, we can take a little more time to put a little more Jesus time into our day.

Dear God, help us to prioritize the important things, to take time to spend with you, and to teach our children the value of living a Christian life. Help us to be good role models for our children, to show them the importance of reading, and help them understand the blessings we receive from helping others. Amen.
