Peace on Earth

Dear Christmas Mourners - be blessed (Matthew 5:4),

Police Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu have been shot dead while in their police car in New York City. A city known for its wondrous celebration of Christmas in now in grief.

To a post 9-11 America the rock group U2 sang the song “Peace on Earth.”

The initial verse is;
Heaven on earth
We need it now
I’m sick of all this
Hanging around
Sick of sorrow
Sick of Pain
Sick of hearing again and again
That there’s gonna be
Peace on earth

The words of Bono (U2’s lead singer) resonate with us now. We are “sick of all this". It is time for some hope and healing. Let the words of the angel in Luke pierce the darkness and offer fresh light to a world steeped in darkness. With the angels who addressed the shepherds on the night of Jesus' birth let us declare the darkness cannot win! “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom God favors." (Luke 2:14)

Let us this day come in out of the darkness and draw near the light of Christ Jesus who promises the darkness will not have the final victory. Violence and death will lose in the end, for Jesus has come to bring peace and life.

I hope to see you today at 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. as we worship at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch. May we be reminded once more of the power of new born Prince of Peace.

Blessed Christmas time,

Pastor David J. Jensen

Oh Pastor Dave, this is heartbreaking. Again. And you've found just the right words and tone to help me process it. I'll be in prayer with you and all the folks, and we just keep longing for the radical inbreaking of God!!! Mercy mercy mercy!
Oh, mercy! Into such a world...
