Peace on Earth

Right now, more than anything, I need hope.  I need hope for a future that holds Peace on Earth.  A future where Peace on Earth is not a catch phrase printed on holiday cards, but a commitment from every man, woman and child to care for each other every single moment of every single day so that no one is homeless or hungry or bullied or lonely.  In times like these, I search my own heart for how my life can be placed into service into moving the world one tiny step towards Peace on Earth.  How then can one single person, me, you, us make a difference, find hope? Perhaps Saint Francis said it best.  What if each day, each of us made a commitment to accomplish just one of the tasks outlined for us below?  What a wonderful New Year’s resolution that could be!!

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

St. Francis of Assisi
