Peace be with you

Peace.  It’s something we all seem to search for.  It’s something we all can work for.  But how do we find peace?  It often seems rather elusive to me.

From email alerts on the computer in our pocket (smartphone!) to worrying about our parents and our kids, peace seems far away.  Where can we find some peace?  Just turning off my phone/computer/tablet doesn’t seem to do it.  Is there a way to turn off my brain? Help!

Peace be with you.”

In John 20:19-31 we hear the story of the Jesus’ friends hiding away behind closed doors in fear.  Jesus appears and says, “Peace be with you.”  Jesus wants to give us peace.  Jesus offers us peace.  I think the thing is this: are we willing to accept his peace?

Does that seem like a silly question?  I mean who doesn’t want a little peace?  But, accepting Jesus’ peace might require that we put down the technology.  It might mean that we give up our fears and our worries.

We might need to act as if we believe he’s alive.

Jesus has peace to share and it’s ours.  Let’s take it!  One of the things we do when we are together as a faith community is to share the peace of Jesus with one another.  I think that when we’re together Jesus comes and stands in our midst and gives us his peace.  Come get a little peace tomorrow at 9 or 10:30.

Grace and peace,
