Paying Attention

What do you pay attention to?  What do you really notice throughout your day?  If you were able to get away for a few days, would what you pay attention to change?

Before he started his ministry, Jesus got away for a few days.  40 days to be exact according to Luke 4:2.  Do you wonder what Jesus did during those days?  Luke tells us Jesus didn’t eat.

It’s no wonder the devil tried to have his way with Jesus – Jesus was tired and hungry.  I know when I’m tired and hungry it’s difficult to resist temptation.

What can we do to insure we’re filled with God and resting in the peace of the Holy Spirit?  We can nurture practices that help us notice God more in our daily lives and make time to spend with God in prayer, scripture and silence.

That will be our focus during Lent (40 days not counting Sundays leading up to Easter).  Each Wednesday at our midweek Lent soup supper and service we’ll introduce a new idea to help us experience God daily.  We’re also reading the book, Help, Thanks, Wow – 3 Essential Prayers by Anne Lamott together.  And on Sunday mornings, Pastor Dave will be preaching a series titled, “Steps to Take to Follow Jesus.”  We hope you can join us tomorrow morning at 9 or 10:30.  Visit the website for details on Wednesdays.

God bless you and may you be filled with God’s peace, strength, courage and wisdom,
