Pay Attention

Hebrews 2:1-18

Hebrews 2:1 “We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”

Easy to say, easy to read, but are we paying attention to what we hear? All of it? Do we pay attention to the right things?

If we paid attention to everything the world throws at us wouldn’t our homes be filled with… stuff? Wouldn’t we be more interested in ourselves than those who might need our help around us?

Hebrews 2:14-16 “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil – and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.”

YOU and I, we are descendants of Abraham, we are GOD’s chosen… YOU and I! Every man, woman, and child… we are GOD’s chosen!

I was looking at “People” the magazine, their December 31, 2012 issue… their “Special Double Issue”… and the cover showed pictures of the 26 who died at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The story covered a full 12 pages.

There was also a small bubble on the cover stating “25 MOST Intriguing People, Pictures of the Year & MORE!” It covered a full 17 pages… and to be honest I didn’t find an intriguing thing in any of the stories or pictures… not one… nada. I pray to GOD I am paying attention to the right things!

So, I started to wonder what intrigues me, what do I want to pay attention to in the coming year?

- I have a friend Alan, who is president of an organization to help 3rd world areas, the untouchables… he’s smart, he could be a CEO of any large corporation and make huge bucks, but he doesn’t and that intrigues me. I pray I put some of my attention here in 2013.
- I have met Brad Corrigan, a musician,… a very successful, good, and famous musician. He didn’t make the 25 most Intriguing People of the Year, but hundreds if not thousands of people in Managua Nicaragua, Pine Ridge, and Sun Valley are alive and eating, and living because of what Brad is doing and has done. I pray I put more of my attention here in 2013.
- I have a neighbor Don, who is a paraplegic, but mows his own yard in the summer with a non-motorized push mower, and who I helped shovel his driveway this Christmas morning. When we finished his driveway he said our neighbors were visiting family in Oklahoma and was going to do their driveway also… so we shoveled their driveway also. I pray I put more attention here in 2013.
- I have a wife who to me is more of my best friend with benefits… really great benefits… and a son who I realize is more giving and loving and awesome at his age than in my heart I fear I have ever been. I pray I put more attention here in 2013.

YOU and I, we are descendants of Abraham, we are GOD’s chosen… YOU and I! Every man, woman, and child… we are GOD’s chosen!

As GOD’s chosen… let us choose GOD… I pray!
- Let us let go of the world and choose GOD
- Let us let go of our guns, maybe just one or two of them and choose GOD.
- Let us let go of our need for independence and help the mentally ill, just one or two of them… and choose GOD.
- Let us let go of our need to be of the world, enslaved by the things of this world and choose GOD.
- Let us let go of our fear of death and love the ones we are with, truly, deeply, let go of what keeps us from loving our spouse, our mother, our father, our brother, our sister, our neighbor, let us let go and choose GOD.

Precious Father, Loving God, Holy Spirit, We pray that you help us to let go of this world and accept fully that we are your chosen, help us to know and to be Christ in the world… to every man, woman, and child on and in this world. AMEN!
