Overwhelmed

Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

I’m a list maker. I’m a list checker. I love to check things off to prove to myself that I’m actually doing everything I’m supposed to be doing. I used to make a bucket list every few years and it was amazing to see how many things I had accomplished over a period of time. My last bucket list included hopes and dreams, some big, some little:

¨  Clean out closets

¨  Crop the photos

¨  Write the book

¨  Travel to Greece, Turkey or Africa

ý  Take catamaran trip 2011

¨  Pay off the house

¨  Visit the grandkids

¨  Work less, play more

¨  Go to the theatre

¨  Clean off my desk

¨  Quit being so serious

¨  Give up “stuff”

¨  Make another baby quilt

ý  Pray more

¨  Write more

¨  Journal daily

I haven’t made a new list for a long time. I’ve simply been too busy to make the list. I’m overwhelmed. Life happens. Today when I was running from the car to the store to get the candy for the kiddies, I fell flat on my butt – gonna have a big black and blue mark to prove I couldn’t catch myself in the fall. Run. Run. Run. I have so many things to do!

Anxiety is overwhelming, and it can hinder productivity because you spend more time worrying than being productive. So join with me today. If you can’t make a list, simply kneel and be thankful for the overwhelming life we have. Pour out your heart to God and share your anxiety. Just talk to God and he promises to take care of the list. Check!

Dear Jesus, Thanks for letting me check off my old list. I’m leaving for my catamaran trip on Friday to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and I am thankful that you will take care of the rest!
