Our Father's Business

Dear Baptized,

This Sunday, January 8, 2017 is traditionally designated as the “Baptism of Our Lord”.

Often we think of adolescents or even babies when we think of the baptized. We do not have a lot of information in the scriptures about Jesus as a child. The only words recorded in the gospels as spoken by Christ in the first thirty years of his life are in Luke’s account of Jesus meeting his parents after they lost him for three days. After their frazzled scolding’s, Jesus answers his parents, “Did you not know that I must be busy with my father’s affairs?”  (Luke 2:49)

Jesus words must become the words of each one of us. Each of us is called to be “about my Father's business.”

And what’s God's business? Bringing the future into the present. Or as Jesus taught us to pray: “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”

See Mathew 3:13-17 for further reflection on this text.

Prayer: for the group who went to Israel in November from God’s Grace Community Church. They will offering the message at each worship service this Sunday.

May you be blessed anew in your baptismal waters this day and always.

 Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
