Open to Love

Genesis 22:1-19

Genesis 22:1-2 “ Some time later GOD tested Abraham. He said to him, Abraham! Here I am, Abraham replied. Then GOD said, take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”

It happens that way with me sometimes. I decide a direction my life will take and I follow that path regardless of the consequences for those around me… and sometimes I believe it is the right path to go down. I’ll even pray about it.

Anne Lamott says “You can safely assume you’ve created GOD in your own image when it turns out that GOD hates all the same people you do.”

Sacrificing sons and daughters is mentioned several times in the bible (i.e. 2 Kings 12:17, 2 Kings 18:32). Generally, it’s the same story. People were not loving their neighbor, let alone their spouse or their children. People followed worthless idols and it says they themselves even became worthless (2 Kings 17:15).

Genesis 22:9 “When they reached the place GOD had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, Abraham! Abraham!”

So, when you’ve chosen a path in life that causes you grief… and it also causes grief for your family and friends it may be wise to make sure “LOVE” is involved, because sometimes we get so caught up with our enemies that we tend to overlook GOD and LOVE and end up hurting those we truly love… our neighbor.

Precious Father, Loving GOD, Holy Spirit we pray for discernment from what we want and what we think you want. Help us to let go of our fears and worries so that our hearts and minds are opened to love in everything we do, see, or even think of. AMEN!
