Open the Door

Dear People of Advent,

Late in 1943, imprisoned by the Nazis for his resistance to Hitler, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote to a friend: “Life in  a prison cell reminds me a great deal of Advent—one waits, and hopes and putters about, but in the end what we do is of little consequence, for the door is shut and can only be opened from the outside.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, ‘Letters and Papers from Prison (New York : MacMillan,1972)

During the second week of Advent in 2007, the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska was the site of a shooting. On Monday of this week, as we started the second week of Advent 2016, Ohio State University became the site of yet another attack. That university is the alma mater for God’s Grace participants Terry Luce and Dr. Shawn Batterberry.

Come oh Holy Christ Child and open the door once more! Release anew the hope, joy, peace, and love of Advent once more, which only the sacred babe has the security clearance to do.

“Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” Matthew 3:3

Let us pray for: All who mourn in Ohio, the refugee, the Meador family and all who are in need of healing.

Still in One Peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
