Only Through Forgiveness

Dear Church,

How odd that the church should be known among many in the world as a place of judgment and finger-pointing, criticism and condemnation of those who are not in the church.

Forgiveness begins at home, in the church. We forgive no sin among non-Christians in the world that has not been forgiven by Jesus in us. “Forgive us our trespasses (debts) we owe to you,” we say to God in the Lord’s Prayer, “as we have forgiven the trespasses (debts) other owe us.”

Without forgiveness, there is no way for us to help establish a relationship of Jesus Christ with the world that he came to save. (John 3:16) Sunday's Gospel (John 20:19-31) suggests that the church is founded by the grace of a forgiving God. The church, your church and mine, continues to this very day only through forgiveness. Read John 20:19-31 for further reflection.

When have you crossed the path of the gracious ways of Jesus? On Sunday I have the pleasure of sharing the sermon teach-in with our brother in Christ, Mike Thompson. Mike was recently in Nicaragua on a mission trip with is co-workers. Through Mike, the Lord will speak to your doubts about the love of Jesus being on the move in our world.

Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
