One Small Step

There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life. —John Lenn

Today I pray that I believe, really believe what Jesus taught; our God loves us in all our glory and all our imperfections.  I have been asked to write “devotions” and each time I come to the blank word document I think, I am not a good writer, why did they ask me to do this?  Who cares what I have to say, why did they ask me to do this?  No one will read this anyway, why did they ask me to do this?  And then I realize that I’m operating out of that place of fear and I am reminded to ask myself what might I accomplish, how might I serve, if I simply embrace my innate goodness and walk fearlessly through each day.  I pray that I will open my heart to the divine love that flows in and through me today so that my actions and my words serve to create instead of destroy.  I suppose what I just wrote sounds rather glorious so because I’m human just like the rest of you, today my small step towards making my prayer a reality will be to only speak kindly when I speak of others and when I have my little "inside my head thoughts" about myself.  May we all take one small step today, tomorrow and the next day to embrace our potential.
