Not Always What We Want

This past month we have been learning about Jesus’s bad habits. It is kind of refreshing to know he had some. I say that tongue in cheek as his bad habits were based around his ministry and his helping others. My bad habits are based around my bad behaviors. I am working on them, everyday- I make progress sometimes, sometimes not. Each day I do ask for forgiveness and help with these behaviors.

Over this past month I have been going through old, papers, old stuff from my prior job, crud that I just don’t know why I have kept it. Working on my devotion, I came across this and decided it fit pretty well with what my heart has been feeling and working on:

“If the only prayer you say in your life is thank you, that would suffice.”- Meister Eckhart ( a German theologian who died in 1328)

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is a spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude, “ – Dennis Waitley (American motivational speaker- US Naval Academy- 85 years of age)

“ Thou has given so much to me.

Give one thing more- a grateful heart:

Not thankful when it pleaseth me.

As if the blessings had spare days;

But such a heart, whose pulse may be thy praise.”

George Herbert – Welsh poet died 1633

I get hung up on what I want and what I need.

I get hung up in my pity parties of what I need to do and what I want to do.

I get hung up , when I can't change what I want to change.

I lose track of what is important.

I lose track of the people that matter most.

I lost track of the simple prayer of THANK YOU. So simple, so pure and so specific.
