New Reality

Dear Realists,

Christians are often told that we need to be “realistic,” that we need to accept the “facts of life.” But this begs the question: in what sort of reality do we live? The coming of Jesus was an assault upon the perceived world, the world that we thought we had. A new world breaks out in the preaching and work of Christ. The shape of that new world is indicated in Jesus' opening of his sermon on the mount, his Beatitudes—in which he pronounces blessing on those whom the world often curses. In so doing, Jesus invites us to become citizens of the new world, a new reality.

Recently Hunter Lee, a participant at God’s Grace, went with the Athletes in Action group to Kenya. Hunter's world was turned upside down. How he perceives the “blessed of this world“ was called into question, and spiritual reversals were made in his heart. This Sunday, it is my honor to share the sermon teaching with Hunter. I look forward to leading with Hunter. Let us pray that a bit of the Holy Spirit's power to stir in Hunter's heart in Kenya will be right here in Colorado, allowing us to see the blessing of citizenship in the world anew.

Scripture for reflection includes, Matthew 5:1-12 and Romans 1:16.

God’s blessings,

Pastor David J. Jensen
