New Day

I awoke this morning before the sunrise. Nowhere to rush off to, so I snuggled in awaiting the beauty I knew was to come. The direct view from my pillow out the southeasterly facing window wouldn’t disappoint this morning, I was sure. Then the memories rushed back in. Another mass shooting, lives lost, hopes and dreams of 14 shattered. Questions, grief, anger, blame, despair. Why should I get to stay in the comfort of my home, awaiting the sunrise, sipping coffee, opening boxes of holiday decor, adorning my home when so many have suffered and will never experience that, nor anything earthly ever again?

I will go on with my day…I will light candles to honor lives lost, dreams shattered. I will stop and remember, honor with prayer, honor with silence during the busyness of this day…this day when the Advent candle of hope burns brightly.

Oh God, wrap your comforting, loving arms around all those who grieve, those who mourn, those who question. May they feel your love. May they feel the love from those around them. May they be surrounded with a supportive, caring community. Fill their hearts with hope, may peace come to them in time. Amen
