Name Above All Names

My new name is Grandma.  My twin grandsons, Damon & Donovan, are 2 ½ and just spent a week with us over Thanksgiving.  Now mind you I became a grandma when they were born but it’s just been recently that I’ve gotten to hear it spoken by Damon.  He loves the word.  He says it over and over and over and over and over and over . . . imagine the time it takes to drive from Evergreen to Denver and hearing your name called out repeatedly (yes, pretty much for the whole length of our trip until Dad had had enough!).

Jesus yearns to hear us call out for him over and over and over and over and over and over . . . he does not tire, he does not get annoyed, he does not say how ‘bout later.  Jesus is the name above all names.  What’s your name for Jesus?  Have you been calling out his name?

I had a lot of very important things to do while my grandsons were here: giving and receiving butterfly kisses, picking up Damon each and every time he held out his arms while repeating his new favorite word “Grandma,” until he got picked up, holding Donovan upside down and saying to him “ready, set……..go!” and seeing his face light up and hearing his laugh.  Watching the DVD of Wonder Pets saving the reindeer, saving the ants, saving the camel.  Playing trucks, making snowballs, tickling, helping with baths and coloring. Lots of coloring. Take a look at my fridge and see how beautiful the pictures are.

And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 18:3

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  Matthew 19:14

Everyone has gone home and it’s just Paul and me living in what looks like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion of having 6 others under our roof for a week.  It’s quiet and I miss hearing my name “Grandma” called out.  I can look at my fridge which is covered in art made just for Grandma Nan and remember the little hands that made them.  They are precious in my sight.  And I am reminded that Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Lord, Everlasting Father, Savior, Redeemer, Messiah, King of Kings, Lamb of God…you are the name above all names.  I know that you are there each and every time I call on you, each and every time I reach out my arms for you to pick me up.  Thank you for Damon and Donovan who helped me to slow down and become like a little child.  Amen.
